Diversity Day

Swansea Bay Regional Equality Council has success-fully held two diversity days in Neath Port Talbot Schools. Both Cefn Saeson and Sandelds have been very accommodating, it’s an experience that will both enhance better community relations and educate young minds, about culture and communities from all around the world.  Pupils from Cimla, joined community groups and Neath MP Peter Hain for the event at Cefn Saeson, which saw workshops take place covering everything from drumming to belly dancing and food taster sessions. Mr Hain said ‘I was very impressed with all the eort put into the day.

It just confirms whatever your background or the colour of your skin, we are all equal and deserve to be treated equally’.  Further to this initial success and demand, we organised a second event at Sandelds Comprehensive.

On this occasion the event was opened by Dr Brian Gibbons AM for Aberavon and Dr Hywel Francis MP for Aberavon. Both complimented and praised the good grass root level work being carried out by the ‘Helping Tackle Vulnerability Project’ and wished for its ongoing success.

The highlight of the day was the performance of ‘Arnold Matsena’ who later, appeared on ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ part of A3 dance group from Swansea.

Due to the previous success, we were called upon by the Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council to provide another four ‘Diversity Days’ in the area to celebrate diversity. These sessions were delivered in February 2011 at Cefn Saeson, St Josephs, Dwr-y-Felin and Dyffryn Comprehensive Schools. We feel that such a provision will encourage community cohesion and integration through interaction and fun, thus enriching the lives of and well being of all communities around us.
