What is the Engagement Gateway
The Engagement Gateway Project aims to tackle barriers towards employment in the Swansea, Neath and Port Talbot community. People who usually face barriers in the community include Black and Ethnic Minority people (BAME), People with limited health conditions, young people not in employment or training (NEET), Lone Parents, women and older people. Also, other individuals who have been out of work for a long period may lack confidence. The project aims to tackle the barriers by providing individuals with Soft skills and transferable skills. Soft skills are personal attributes that enhance an individual’s interactions, job performance and career prospects.
The project provides various workshops for individuals to enhance their confidence and social skills. This includes:-
Digital Photography Workshop
This Workshop takes place in Sketty Community Centre and helps empower individuals by enabling them to learn new technical skills and develop their potential.
This is a non accredited I.T class which enable individuals to develop their basic I.T skills and learn how to load Word 2007 and understand the features, how to open, create and save a document and how to select characters, words, lines, sentences, paragraphs and entire document in order to write and format assignments, and how to copy and save documents onto different storage devices.
Arts and Crafts
This is a women’s workshop which enables them to become creative and design their own jewellery and cards, helping them to meet new people and build their confidence.
Job Search Workshop
in our job search workshop, clients are able to use our computers to gain access to jobs and training in the area and have access to newspaper/internet and telephones to contact employers. They also receive help on interview techniques and advise on what to expect and how to do well. Also, they receive help in creating or improving their CV’s.
We also refer individuals to courses such as ESOL to tackle language barriers, and short courses such as First Aid Training and Food Hygiene Course to enable them to go into further learning and gain qualifications. Also, we aim to increase employability skills in clients by referring them to other mainstream programmes and encouraging them to volunteer.
This is a new exciting project that is part of the Engagement Gateway, which provides people with the necessary skills and expertise in order to be valued members of the workforce and an asset to prospective employers.
