Minority Ethnic Elders Advocacy
“Helping ethnic minority elders to say what they want, secure their rights, represent their interests and obtain services they need” – these are the ethos of this project.
The MEEA project is an all Wales project funded by the Big lottery Fund for 3 years, based in various locations including Swansea. During this time Swansea Bay REC’s part of the project aims to: Advocate on behalf of ‘Ethnic Minority Elders’ (MEE) on a variety of issues.
We are working to deliver this project in partnership with member organisations of the ‘Welsh Equality Group (WEG)’. We develop links with local statutory and voluntary older people’s services to ensure that the needs and concerns of (MEE) clients are heard.
Most importantly we train and encourage MEE clients to voice their needs and access services independently. Also we provide an opportunity for MEE clients to have influence in the future provision of services for older people.
What can the MEEA project help clients with?
- Access to Social Care
- Finance and Benefits
- Social and Leisure Activities
- Home Care
- Residential Care
- Domestic/Elders Abuse
- Family issues
- Language Barriers
