Overview of our work

An elected Executive Committee have a strategic overview of the work carried out by Swansea Bay REC. The Committee consists of a Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer and 11 other elected members, as well as four local authority Councillors.

The Executive Committee also has the benefit of an observer from the Police Service who is usually of a Superintendent rank, as well the Chief Fire Officers from Swansea and Neath Port Talbot. In the interest of transparency and in order to allow an overview by our core funders, we have an officer representing the Chief Executives of Swansea and Neath Port Talbot Councils.

The inclusion of such esteemed members of organisations and Committees ensures that we have a wide range of experiences on our Executive Committee.   It is also important for the sake of governance that, in a model organisation such as ours, we have the right skills at the top management level.  And yet, the general public (members of the Full Council) have complete independence of selecting each and every member of the Executive Committee once a year thereby ensuring rights to democratic accountability of the organisation.

Our work now covers the protected characteristics of race, sex, religion/belief, disability, age,  marriage & civil partnerships, gender re-assignment, sexual orientation and pregnancy & maternity.   Our Executive Committee currently boasts expertise in matters such as education, finance, governance, health, local government, crime & disorder, third sector,  international relations and the private sector.

Our Executive Committee reassigns responsibility for day to day guidance of our staff to two key sub-committees i.e. Finance & General Purposes and Membership Sub-Committee and Personnel Sub Committee. There are further ad hoc sub-committees such as Marketing Panel and Fundraising Panel to help the Executive Committee’s work. All of these Sub Committees are exclusively populated by members of the Executive Committee along with Observers on the Executive Committee.
